About chiropractic

Chiropractic is a healing art and science that emphasizes a natural approach to health without the use of drugs or surgery. While popularly known to be "back doctors", Dr. Newman also provides hands on treatment and teaches exercises for other musculoskeletal injuries.

Doctors of chiropractic are obligated to formulate a diagnosis by taking a patient history and performing an appropriate physical examination. If necessary, x-ray studies and laboratory tests may be ordered. Dr. Newman decides whether to prescribe diagnostic studies on an individual case by case. Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to view the patient as a whole person. Each being a unique combination of mind, body and spirit. As early as 1985, D. D. Palmer, a pioneer of the chiropractic profession used the term "Innate Intelligence" to describe this combination of life energy. This philosophy of care, concentrates on restoring balance in all the factors that influence the optimum state of health in the whole person.

The foundation of chiropractic care is the use of specific manipulations of the spine and other joints of the body. This treatment can promote healing and enhance feelings of well-being that lead to improved health and vitality. Dr. Newman also provide advice in proper "body mechanics," nutrition, exercise and healthy lifestyles.

Dr. Newman is a first contact doctor who does not need a referral. He practices within the legal scope of Wisconsin state licensure and recognizes the value of other health professionals and when necessary, the use of medical and surgical procedures. Dr. Newman will consult with, refer to, and accept referrals from other doctors when it is in the best interest of the patient.
