What to expect

The primary method of treatment is the chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation. It is used to restore normal joint motion, enhance circulation, relax tense or strained muscles and reduce nerve pressure.

Dr. Newman also utilizes flexion distraction, a combination of traction and manipulation that is very effective at reducing the pressure within the discs, decreasing nerve irritation and restoring healthy spinal movement. Manual meridian therapy and therapeutic massage can be used as a component of pain control. As Dr. Newman emphasizes self-care strategies, exercises are often prescribed as a part of a treatment plan.

To accelerate healing and enhance feelings of well-being, Dr. Newman may also teach stress management and relaxation techniques.

Please plan on arriving a few minutes early for your first appointment. We try to minimize paper work, but completed forms are necessary. Afterward, Dr. Newman will take a medical history and perform an appropriate examination. You will not need to disrobe, but please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Be aware that x-rays are not always necessary. Dr. Newman follows evidence-based guidelines and will only order the needed studies based on the person's individual history and examination findings.
